Day 1:

Upon your arrival in Costa Rica you will be greeted by your Costa Rica Extreme primary guide, a resident expert on all the flora and fauna of Costa Rica as well as the many activities that await you. Your guide will accompany you throughout your excursion, serving as Trip Leader, companion and facilitator.
Your first night in our magical country will be at a very intimate plantation inn in Alajuela. The plantation is surrounded on three sides by coffee and orange farms and the remaining side is bordered by a 3,000 acre nature preserve encompassing a canyon with hiking trails, a waterfall and dense tropical flora. It features a main house detailed with tropical hardwoods, glass and stone, and exquisite cottages inspired by the Japanese design traditions of openness and harmony.
Adventurers arriving early in the day have their choice of an abundance of activities ranging from adrenaline-pumping bungee jumping to the serenity of a peaceful stroll through the beautiful gardens and jungle surrounding the plantation.
After an exquisite dinner on the terrace overlooking the Rio Grande Canyon, your primary guide, an expert on Costa Rica’s multitude of adventures and natural beauty, will familiarize you with the exciting activities of the days ahead.

Day 2:

Your day begins early with a private motor coach journey to the Orosi Valley. Mountain bikes will be your swift transport through this beautiful and picturesque countryside. This is no leisurely pedal-in-the-park ride. The trails through the Tapanti Mountain range will provide you with unbelievable challenges. After several strenuous hours later, your pulse rate quickened, and your body temperature elevated, a cool dip in the Pejibaye River will provide you much needed relief. Our world-class guides will help you make the most of this waterborne adventure by expertly steering your raft through the river’s Class II and III rapids. The splashing waves of the rapids and cool pools will revitalize you after your rugged mountain bike adventure.
Then the rest of your night is filled by the relaxing atmosphere of a peaceful resort located in the Turrialba region where you will be residing for the night.

Day 3:

Today, you will embark on several activities. You begin the first part of a three-day journey down the beautiful Pacuare. The put-in point will require a bit of hiking, a great way to start this exciting adventure. At the upper part of the Pacuare your first three hours will give you the chance to get your feet wet in the Class III and Class IV rapids. The next four hours will allow you to savor the extreme as you challenge the many Class V rapids. Lunch will be wherever a calm spot can be found along the bank. This first night will be a very primitive campsite, along the banks of the Pacuare River, Costa Rica’s premiere rafting river. Your guides will meet our support vehicle and replenish our supplies, as well as bring all the fixin’ they need to prepare a sumptuous happy hour and dinner.

Day 4:

The River beckons as you awaken. The Class V rapids behind you, revel in your newfound comfort at handling the Class IV rapids that the Pacuare offers. Some of your time will be spent out of the water, enjoying beautiful and invigorating hikes through the jungle. After several hours of exhilarating rafting, we will arrive at the Costa Rica Extreme Tent Camp (our private 85 acre reserve). Relax with Hor d’oerves and Guaro punch (native Costa Rican sugarcane rum blended with fresh tropical fruits), while we prepare and serve a delectable dinner. Your platform tent will serve as your home for the night where you will fall asleep to the roar of the river and the endless songs of the jungle’s countless inhabitants.

Day 5:

After waking up, we will explore the varied landscape and abundant animals of the Costa Rica Extreme private reserve before we climb back aboard our rafts to continue our challenge of the mighty Pacuare. Several class III and IV rapids will confront us before we stop for lunch. A natural outcropping, 30 feet above the river, provides us with a perfect perch to appreciate the majesty and beauty of the Pacuare as well as the tasty lunch prepared by the guides. After lunch, the daring amongst us may leap into the river and gently float on our backs through the Dos Montañas Canyon, teaming with an abundance of trees, plants, waterfalls, birds and other endemic wildlife. Once back aboard our raft, we will tackle some of the more technical and challenging stretches of the river with several Class IV rapids to invigorate us.
After several days of rafting, you leave the river for a welcoming journey towards the Arenal region and its inviting hot springs and spas. Relax your muscles and bones in the many natural pools heated by their close proximity of the Arenal Volcano, renown as one of the world’s most active. Find the temperature that is just right for you, slide in and enjoy. Feast your eyes on the lush tropical surroundings while listening to the steady rumbling of the mighty Arenal, and on a cloudless night, watch red-hot lava spew down from its rim. An optional enhancement to your spa experience is to enjoy a soothing massage in a private cabana overlooking the jungle (reservations required).
Our favorite resort in the Arenal area opens its doors to welcome you for a relaxing night’s stay. Tennis courts and a swimming pool are just some of the amenities of this exotic working ranch. Don’t be surprised to see a local Caiman (crocodile) sunning itself on the shores of the San Carlos River, which provides the backdrop to many of the rooms at this superb locale.

Day 6:

La Fortuna is our destination today, but only as a gateway to the adventure of flight… in a manner of speaking. We saddle up our horses and enjoy an hour’s horseback ride through coffee fields and papaya farms as we climb up into the primary rainforest, to the first of twelve platforms. Strapped into your rappelling harness, helmet on, clipped via pulley to a braided steel cable, 100 feet above the ground without a safety net, you lunge into the air. Sailing gracefully, you enjoy an exhilarating birds-eye view of canopy and the forest below. Tree to tree, you fly effortlessly, slowing down only to appreciate the variety of animals that live high above the ground in the canopies of the rainforest.

Day 7:

Sadly, our journey must end and after enjoying some local activities in the morning, we leave Arenal for our return to the San Jose area. Our last evening together will be at a comfortable, colonial style hotel where you will prepare for your departure the next day.

Day 8:

We will then escort you to the Juan Santamaria International Airport in time for your return flight back home.
